Police: Francisco Antonio Rivera charged with multiple offenses

LEWISTOWN – A man identified as a citizen of Honduras was charged with multiple offenses, including assaulting a police officer, after a traffic stop at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, according to a report from Pennsylvania State Police Lewistown.

According to the report, Francisco Antonio Rivera, 23, was pulled over by police for a traffic violation along U.S. 22 in Derry Township. Police said during the investigation it was determined Rivera was driving under the influence.

Police said while Rivera was being secured he fled on foot down an embankment toward the Juniata River. According to the report, troopers pursued Rivera, who had fallen. Police then attempted to grab Rivera around the legs and during the scuffle a trooper’s head hit a snow covered rock, resulting in injury. According to the report, Rivera then ran into the wooded where he was taken into custody.

Police said the injured trooper was treated at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital and then released. Along with being charged for assaulting a police officer, Rivera was charged with DUI, recklessly endangering, escape, disorderly conduct and other traffic offenses. He was placed in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail.
