40th Annual Meat Canning Project set for Feb. 10-14
From staff reports
LEWISTOWN – The Central Pennsylvania World Hunger Association’s 40th Annual Meat Canning Project will be held from Feb. 10 to 14, 2014, at the East Derry Fire Company, Lewistown. Times will be from 7a.m. to 7 p.m., and cleanup.
There is work available for everyone; youth must be accompanied by a parent. The association has needs for meat cutters, helpers on the canner, can wipers and labelers, and a cleanup crew. They will work with the Mennonite Center Committee to supply canned meat to help feed the world’s hungry, with 10 percent staying in the five-county area. This year they are canning 30,000 lbs. of turkey. They presently have about half the financial support needed to complete the project. The group does not receive financial help from MCC, so donations are greatly appreciated for this local project.
Groups are encouraged to schedule times, but all walk-ins are welcome and needed. For more information, please call Rick Esh at 667-2643. To schedule group times call Ben Stoltzfus at (814) 625-2420. Donations can be made to: The Central Pa. World Hunger Association, P.O. Box 76, Belleville, PA 17004.
