Police: 2 local men die in Centre County crash
LEWISTOWN – Two local male residents were killed in a crash Tuesday on state Route 144 in Potter Township, Centre County Pennsylvania State Police Rockview report.
Roger Kennedy, 25, of Lewistown, and Terry Bitner, 50, of Belleville, were both pronounced dead at the scene by Centre County Chief Deputy Coroner Judy Pleskono. Police said the crash occurred near Tucker Road around 7 a.m. in a heavy fog.
The report stated Kennedy was driving north when he attempted to pass a vehicle in a marked passing zone. Police said Kennedy’s vehicle was hit head-on by a southbound vehicle driven by Bitner. Police said both drivers died in the crash.
A report issued by Centre County Chief Deputy Coroner Scott A. Sayers reported that both Bitner and Kennedy died as a result of accidental chest trauma. Police said no one else was in the vehicles.
Police said the crash and emergency response resulted in the closing of the road in both directions while crews were dealing with the situation, and was reopened three hours later.
