Derry Township Supervisors adopt 2014 budget

YEAGERTOWN – The Derry Township Supervisors voted to adopt the 2014 budget, during a special budget meeting on Thursday.

The budget includes a 0.75 percent increase for the general purpose tax rate from the 2013 budget. This increase raises the millage rate to 6.44 mills. The budget also raises the fire tax to 1.75 mills and the ambulance, rescue, and emergency services tax to 0.25 mills. The light tax is staying the same at 36 cents per front foot on improved property and six cents per from front foot on unimproved property.

The budget also contained taxes imposed for general purposes and debt reduction. The first, beginning on July 1, is a real estate transfer tax of 1 percent. Also starting on July 1, is a 1.35 percent income tax on all wages earned in the township. Both of these end on June 30, 2015. The budget also contained a $5 per capita tax and a $52 local services tax. These will end on Dec. 31, 2014.

The new budget will go into effect on Jan. 1 and be in effect until Dec. 31, 2014.

Vice-chairman Ronald Napikoski was absent from the meeting.
