Police: Driver transports hurt motorist to hospital
McCLURE – Lewistown Police Department reports Michael Romig, 22, of McClure, transported Desire Smith, 25, of McClure, to the Lewistown Hospital after an accident occurred at 2:09 a.m. on Monday.
According to the report, both Romig and Smith were traveling north on Back Maitland Road in Decatur Township when Romig, driving a 1979 Pontiac Bonneville, tried to pass Smith, who was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. Police said Romig tried to pass in a designated passing zone, and he crossed back in front of Smith as the passing zone came to an end. The report said Smith braked and counter steered away from Romig, which caused her to lose control of her vehicle. Police said Smith traveled off of the eastern berm and tried to regain control, which caused her to travel northwest across the southbound lane of travel. The report said Smith continued off of the western berm and struck a tree.
Police said after hitting the tree, Smith continued to travel northwest before hitting a building and coming to a stop facing northwest. Police said Romig came to a controlled stop along Back Maitland Road at the scene of the crash and later transported Smith to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Police said alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in this accident, however Romig will be cited for the collision.
