Police:?Crash victim dies of injuries

MOUNT UNION – A Newton Hamilton man injured in an Oct. 23 car accident has died, according to a report issued by Pennsylvania State Police Lewistown.
Howard K. Sowers, 83, died at 4:39 p.m. Saturday at Pittsburgh Hospital from injuries suffered in the crash, police say.
Police said the crash, which took place on Kistler Road, Mount Union, occurred after Sowers pulled out from a stop sign into the path of Josie J. Atherton, 37, of Mount Union. According to the report, Sowers’ car was pushed into a ditch and Atherton’s car went across the road and came to rest next to the road.
Police said Sowers had to be extracted by mechanical means and was transported to Altoona Hospital by Mount Union EMS for treatment for his injuries. According to the report, Atherton and her passengers, both minors, were wearing their seat belts and were not injured in the crash. Police said Sowers was not wearing a seat belt. His car was towed from the scene.
Police were assisted at the scene by Mount Union Fire and Ambulance Co.
