Garage destroyed by fire
McVEYTOWN – A fire destroyed a garage in Oliver Township on Friday, McVeytown Fire Co. Chief Barry Sunderland Sr. said.
Mifflin County Emergency Dispatch said they received the call at 8:38 p.m., which reported the garage at 10 Goss Creek Lane on fire. Sunderland said homeowner Robert Goss was burning some garbage next to the two-bay garage and went back inside his home.
Later, when he heard some small popping noises, he went outside to investigate. At that time he discovered the garage engulfed in flames. Sunderland said when firefighters arrived they were initially delayed because of the wooden bridge leading to the home. Once firefighters were able to get access to the garage they witnessed some small explosions, and it took them 15 to 20 minutes to get the fire under control, according to Sunderland. He said no injuries occurred, but the garage was destroyed.
The McVeytown Fire Department was assisted on the scene by West Granville, Junction, Yeagertown, Burnham and Newton Wayne fire departments, as well as McVeytown EMS.
