Friends to hold benefit for Port Royal cancer patient

MIFFLINTOWN – A group of friends have come together in support of Sarah Snyder-Shellenberger, of Port Royal, to help raise money for expenses as she continues cancer treatment.

Snyder-Shellenberger, a mother of two, was diagnosed with a rare form of melanoma in March and the cancer has since spread into her bloodstream, requiring expensive biotherapy and immunotherapy treatment.

The process is so demanding it requires her to stop working, said Dara Reinford, a friend of the patient. Insurance won’t cover anywhere near all the expenses, she said.

“Sarah has been a part of all our lives for an extremely long time,” Reinford said. “She has been through events that could destroy families, devastate a person and probably make a person ask, ‘Why me?’ Yet with every struggle, Sarah has come through stronger than ever.”

Reinford, along with Amber Foose, Olivia Frymoyer and Angela Bryner, are holding a Songs for Sarah fundraiser event from 2 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 3 at The Red Zone in Mifflintown. Songs for Sarah is a full-day musical event, featuring seven local bands and performers as well as a raffle. Songs for Sarah T-shirts will also be on sale for $15.

“We feel lucky and honored and blessed to have Sarah be a part of our lives,” Frymoyer said. “We all feel blessed to be able to organize something like this for her. I can’t even begin to express my feelings and excitement for this benefit.”

All proceeds will go toward the Sarah Snyder-Shellenberger Melanoma Fund. A cover donation of $5 is required to attend. For more information, visit the Songs for Sarah Facebook event page.
