Pirates season highlighted in special section

From staff reports

The once-proud baseball franchise that calls Pittsburgh home is proud again.

The Pirates embark on their first postseason journey in 21 years Tuesday night when they take on the division-rival Cincinnati Reds in the winner-takes-all National League Wild Card Game, which can be seen on television at 8 p.m. on TBS.

After 162 games and six months, it all comes down to nine innings of baseball between two teams who have been less than friendly with each other throughout the season.

But before the Bucs play their 163rd and unquestionably most important game of the season so far, The Sentinel is looking back on a few of the defining moments from this renaissance year of Pittsburgh baseball.

Included with today’s edition is a special publication called “Turning Points: Nine Games That Defined the 2013 Pittsburgh Pirates.” The special section includes some looks back at a few of the pivotal contests that helped the Pirates complete their return to glory – from pitcher Francisco Liriano’s stellar debut in the black and gold back in May all the way to the exciting postseason berth-clinching victory just last week over the Chicago Cubs.

It should be just the thing for Pirates fans to remember all their team has accomplished this season. And hopefully for our readers who are loyal followers of the Pittsburgh Baseball Club, it won’t be your last chance to “Raise the Jolly Roger!” this year.

Let’s go Bucs!
