Feed mill fire quickly snuffed

REEDSVILLE – Area firefighters quickly extinguished a small blaze Thursday night at East Gate Feed and Grain.

Initial reports of a fire came shortly before 7 p.m., when a trail of dark smoke was seen coming from the roof of the facility at 141 Three Cent Lane in Reedsville.

Units from multiple area fire companies responded, and those first on the scene found that a soybean oven inside the facility was on fire.

Reedsville Fire Co. Chief Dan Aumiller said firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within 15 minutes of arriving on the scene. Aumiller said firefighters also had to cut into several ventilation ducts to ensure the fire was not spreading beyond the oven.

Aumiller said no injuries were reported, and other than the oven and ventilation ducts damage to the facility was not extensive.

Units from Reedsville, Milroy, Belleville, Allensville, Yeagertown, Burnham, Highland Park and Junction fire companies responded to the scene, as well as Fame EMS and Milroy EMS. Also assisting at the scene were fire police from Armagh, Derry and Granville townships, along with Belleville, Burnham and Lewistown.
