Commissioners approve food program agreements

LEWISTOWN – The Mifflin County Commissioners on Thursday approved the county’s state food purchase program agency agreements for the period running from July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014.

The monies approved have been allocated to various food banks based on the numbers of clients served, according to Allison Fisher, director of human services.

Fisher said one new entity among the recipients is the Bible Baptist/New Life Church, which is establishing a soup kitchen.

“Their’s is a small amount,” Fisher explained. “But since they’re partnering with us, it gives them the ability to partner with the Department of Agriculture to apply for additional funding.”

The 2013-14 allocations approved Thursday include: Salvation Army, $8,785; Abuse Network, $6,000; Bible Baptist/New Life Church Soup Kitchen, $232.42; Bible Baptist/New Life Church, $7,353; Calvary Bible Church, $11,881; Hand of Grace, $30,000; M-J Human Services, $3,352.08.
