Hearing in unborn assault case waived
LEWISTOWN – A Lewistown woman charged with a felony count of aggravated assault on an unborn child waived her preliminary hearing Friday at Magisterial District Judge Jack Miller’s office.
Police said Shavon N. Fisher, 29, has a history of drug abuse and was found during the evening hours of Aug. 2 in her bedroom and was unresponsive.
Police said Fame EMS responded to the scene and administered an anti-narcotic, to which Fisher responded with positive results. Officers recovered several empty heroin bags, a syringe and a used pregnancy test from the scene, which displayed a positive result, according to court documents.
Fisher was then transported to Lewistown Hospital where further tests confirmed she is six-to-seven weeks pregnant, police said. She also tested positive for opiates, police said.
Fisher remains incarcerated in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility in lieu of $35,000 bail. In addition to the aggravated assault charge, Fisher also is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
A formal arraignment has not yet been scheduled.
