New commanding officers take post

LEWISTOWN – The Salvation Army of Lewistown has two new captains who recently took the helm.

Captains David Means Sr. and Darlene Means moved here from Altoona, where they ran the Salvation Army for the past five years.

Thus far, the transition has gone well and the Meanses are settling in nicely to their new post.

“We are meeting people in the community … trying to get a feel for what their expectations are,” Darlene Means said.

David Means said each city is different and he and his wife plan to meet with local leaders to determine where their efforts should be focused.

In the past, the Meanses have focused on kids.

“Try to keep them off the streets and give them something constructive to do,” she added.

The Meanses are from the Uniontown area and have two grown children, one of whom followed in their footsteps and is an officer in the Salvation Army.

They have spent their entire lives with the Salvation Army and are looking forward to trying to meet the needs of the community.

“Our love of God and love for people has always been our tag line. We love seeing needs met,” David Means said.
