Local groups to sponsor National Night Out event

LEWISTOWN – A National Night Out event will be held at Rec Park in Lewistown beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 6.

The nationwide observance is being sponsored locally by the Lewistown Police Department, Mifflin County Communities That Care, Downtown Lewistown Inc., and Community Watch organizers throughout the borough.

This year marks the 30th National Night Out activities throughout the county and the 11th year of a local observance of the National Night Out event.

The evening’s free activities will begin at 5:30 p.m. with child identification provided by police officers, local agency and emergency services participants including Fame EMS, food and bicycle registration offered by local volunteers. Attendees are encouraged to attend the Rec Park Farmers Market vendors, who will stay open later to accommodate participants in National Night Out. As a special activity, in conjunction with the farmers Market, there will be a fresh food 5k through town beginning at 7 p.m. Registration for the 5k will be at the farmers market information booth.
