County to help with Kardex renovation
LEWISTOWN – The Mifflin County Commissioners on Thursday approved a loan request from the Mifflin County Industrial Development Corporation (MCIDC) in the amount of $50,000 to go toward renovations to the former Kardex building in the Mifflin County Industrial Plaza.
The request came from the county’s Microenterprise Committee, which met earlier in July and recommended the loan for approval. The funds will come from the county’s Community Development Block Grant revolving fund.
Bill Gomes, county planning director and a member of the committee, said the renovations being made are expected to generate a number of new jobs from three small companies interested in occupying the structure.
“This will help create jobs for low to moderate income people,” Gomes explained. “It’s a five-year loan at three percent interest.”
