Lumber mill claimed by fire

McALISTERVILLE – On Friday morning a fire destroyed L&R Lumber, located at 5374 Mountain Road in McAlisterville.

Fayette Fire Company spokesman Glenn Kersetter said his company received the call at 6:34 a.m. and could see smoke as soon as first responders exited the station, some two miles away.

Kersetter said there was a lot of smoke and the building was fully engulfed in flames when firefighers arrived at the scene.

According to Kersetter, the fire started in the generator room and the Pennsylvania State Police investigation has been concluded. Kertstter said it took a little longer than two hours to get the blaze under control, which happened at about 9 a.m.

Kersetter said the cost of the damage is estimated at $1.1 million. Kerstetter said he believes the business has insurance because he said he saw claims adjusters at the scene.

No one was injured in the blaze, Kerstetter said.

Units from Mifflin, Juniata, Perry and Snyder counties assisted in what has been deemed a three-alarm fire.
