Derry Township to get Army Reserve Center
YEAGERTOWN – The House Armed Services Committee passed an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2014 that will authorize the Army to convey an abandoned Army Reserve Center to Derry Township.
The closed Army Reserve Center is located near the former Derry Elementary School in Yeagertown.
The Derry Township Board of Supervisors formally expressed their interest in obtaining the building in June 2012, but has been
actively pursuing procurement of the building for several years.
“Derry Township was in desperate need of a new municipal building and this transfer offers a practical and timely solution,” Marino said. “Municipal offices including the Sewer Authority, Road Department, and Regional Police Department all provide essential services to the people of Derry Township, and the township’s current facility for these offices was far from adequate.”
“I am glad to see that the Mifflin County Army Reserve Center – which has been vacant since 2008 – will be put to good use for the people of the 10th District,” Marino added.
