Robbery suspects enter not guilty pleas

LEWISTOWN – Three people charged in connection with the July 26, 2012, early-morning armed robbery of the Sunoco gas station located at 221 S. Main St in Lewistown entered not guilty pleas recently when brought before the court for formal arraignments.

Akzavier A. Carrington, 17, was charged as an adult with robbery and other related felony offenses.

Police said Carrington pointed a black semiautomatic handgun at the female clerk behind the counter and demanded money be placed in a bag he gave to her. After the clerk had given Carrington the money, she was told to lie down on the floor and that if she moved Carrington said he would shoot her, police said. A total of $78.72 in cash and some food items were taken, police said.

Two other co-conspirators – 18-year-olds Charles Zeiders and Andrew Hoy – were also charged. Hoy accompanied Carrington into the store during the robbery and was supposed to look for the surveillance equipment, police said.

Carrington and Hoy both concealed their faces during the course of the robbery, according to court documents.

Police said Zeiders rode his bicycle to the store just prior to the 1 a.m. robbery to scout the location and give the go ahead for Carrington and Hoy.

Police determined the individuals involved with the robbery had been at the Burgard apartment building that evening and police obtained surveillance video from that night. Police said they compared the footage from the Sunoco and the apartment building and police determined Hoy and Carrington appeared to match the physical size and demeanor of the two males involved, according to court documents.

Hoy was interviewed by police and confirmed Carrington and he were the individuals in the Sunoco surveillance footage. Hoy told the police Carrington was the person with the gun, however, he was unaware Carrington had it at the time, according to court documents.

An unnamed 17-year-old told police Carrington gave him the details of the robbery the next day while at Rec Park in Lewistown.

Carrington and Hoy are incarcerated in lieu of $40,000 bail each. Zeiders remains free on $30,000 bail.

A trial date has not been scheduled.
