LEWISTOWN – Mifflin County Regional Police charged four people on Monday for animal cruelty after they were spotted dropping puppies from the top of Stone Arch Bridge into the water below.

Police said Cody Ritter, 22, of Chestnut Street, Lewistown, and Dustin Fetters, 20, of North Beech Street, Burnham, were dropping the small German shepherd-mix puppies from the top of the bridge at 5:24 p.m., which is approximately 25 feet above the water.

Police said Karissa Walters, 23, of Harvard Street, Lewistown, and Shawnee Strawser, 20, of West Fifth Street, of Lewistown, owned the dogs and were also cited for allowing their dogs to be dropped repeatedly from the top of the bridge.

According to the report, the complainant reported the puppies were crying as they were dropped from the top of the bridge.

Police said arrangements were made for the animals to be put into the custody of Rescue Our Furry Friends.
