Hospital receives Good Scout Award

LEWISTOWN – Lewistown Hospital was honored Wednesday at the the Shawnee District, Juniata Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America’s annual Good Scout Dinner.

The hospital is the first community organization, rather than individual, to receive the Good Scout Award.

“Every year we give the Good Scout Award to an individual, now an organization, that has done a lot of outstanding work for the Boy Scouts,” said Boy Scout Representative Fred McKinley as he presented the award. “A lot of the employees are scout parents and their kids are part of the troop. A lot of the hospital members also participate in the scouts.”

Kirk Thomas, Lewistown Hospital vice president of operations, accepted the award on behalf of the hospital and Kay Hamilton, president and CEO. Hamilton was unable to attend due to previous family commitments.

“Lewistown Hospital is humbled and honored to receive the award this year,” Thomas said. “The hospital has been an important part of this community for over 100 years. We work to serve the community, but even more importantly, support the youth of this community through vital programs like Boy Scouts.”

The hospital also received a Senate Resolution of Congratulations from state Sen. Jake Corman in recognition of the Good Scout Award, Thomas said.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, Mrs. Hamilton and the entire Lewistown Hospital Foundation, we’d just like to thank you for this award and thank you for everything that the Boy Scouts do,” Thomas said.

Thomas concluded the speech by thanking those present at the Good Scout Dinner for their participation and donations for scouts.

“I’d like to give a big thank you to all of you here tonight,” Thomas said. “It’s people like you that make our community able to support more than 440 Boy Scouts in Mifflin and Juniata counties. Because of all of you, that’s possible and that’s why we are really here tonight.”
