Chief clerk to become online banking admin

MIFFLINTOWN – The Juniata County Commissioners met Tuesday morning in Mifflintown to take action on several articles of new business.

During the meeting, the board:

Adopted Resolution 2013-2, formalizing that Chief Clerk Jim Bahorik will accept the responsibilities of the business online banking administrator. Commissioner Jeffrey Zimmerman said the position usually is filled by the chairperson of the board.

Approved the Subordination of Mortgage Lien, recommended by the solicitor in coordination with SEDA-Council of Governments.

Adopted Ordinance 2013-1, “Amendment of the Agreement in Relation to the Establishment of a Mental Health and Intellectual Disability Program, Formerly Referred to as a Mental Health and Mental Retardation Program, for the Counties of Huntingdon, Mifflin and Juniata.” Commissioner Teresa O’Neal said the name change is related to the Act of 1966 which requires counties to re-evaluate mental health services at least every 10 years based on the census. She said it also accommodates new early intervention programs.

Approved the Victims of Juvenile Offenders grant application, submitted by Sylvia A. Middaugh, Juniata County victim and witness coordinator.

Approved the service agreement between Juniata County Children and Youth Services and Families First, from July 1, 2013, to June 30, 2014, submitted by Penni Abram, children and youth director.

Approved the children and youth social service programs certification statement of receipts and expenditures for July 1, 2012, through March 31, prepared by Robyn Ventresca, children and youth fiscal assistant.

Ratified CDBG-IDIS check No. 1,173 in the amount of $7,336 to Hostler Custom Woodworks for a housing rehabilitation project.

Approved tax exonerations for Tuscarora Township.

Approved checks Nos. 37,635 to 37,674 in the amount of $64,004.76.

After the commissioners’ meeting, the Retirement Board met to approve a change in the annual retirement contribution calculation as recommended by the Hay Group, effective fiscal year 2013. Commissioner Robert Reynolds said the change will make the county’s retirement contributions more reflective of current data based on changes in mortality tables.
