Week of the Young Child
LEWISTOWN – About 800 children at Snyder, Union, Mifflin Child Development Inc. participated in events to celebrate The Week of the Young Child from April 14 to 20.
The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The purpose of the week is to focus public attention on the needs of children and their families and to recognize early childhood programs and services that meet their needs. The theme this year is “Early Years Are Learning Years.”
Throughout the week, parents and children were involved in a variety of activities, including planting flowers, listening to guest readers and inviting grandparents to class. In honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month, the students also made blue pinwheels to symbolize awareness and prevention.
SUMCD encourages the community to remember the importance of education in the early years of a child’s life and honor those who make a difference in childrens’ lives. SUMCD is a nonprofit agency that provides head start, early head start, preschool and child care services in Snyder, Union and Mifflin counties. For more information, visit www.sumcd.org.
