Police: 3 Amish teens crash stolen truck
BELLEVILLE – Three Amish boys stole a pickup from a Belleville business and rolled it over during a late-night crash on April 7 on West Back Mountain Road in Union Township, Mifflin County Regional Police Department reports.
Police said two 16-year-olds and a 15-year-old stole a 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck belonging to Big Valley Cabinets to take it for a “joyride” on West Back Mountain Road after a youth singing event.
The driver – one of the 16-year-olds – did not have a driver’s license, police said, and was driving the vehicle at high speeds. Police said the teen lost control of the truck just before 11:30 p.m. while trying to negotiate a right turn, struck an embankment and rolled over at least once before stopping. The truck was severely damaged, police said.
The three teens were not hurt and called the owner of the truck, who then came to the scene, police said. An off-duty Pennsylvania State Police trooper was also on scene.
Police said the teens will be charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and criminal conspiracy. The driver will also face a driving without a license charge, police said. Charges will be filed through the Mifflin County Probation Office.
