Local United Way celebrates $555,120 in campaign donations

LEWISTOWN – The 2013 United Way campaign earned a total of $555,120 in donations, a 3 percent increase from last year’s total. Though the numbers are short of the $600,000 campaign goal, the money will still make a great difference in the community, said Marie Mulvihill, executive director of the United Way.

“We’re not about a goal anymore, but about the resources we can bring to the table,” Mulvihill said, during a board meeting held to announce the campaign results. “I want to celebrate what we did earn and and what we can do with it.”

The money will be used to help fund local non-profit human service organizations in Mifflin and Juniata counties. Proposals are currently being accepted from qualifying groups that need additional funding. Organizations that demonstrate achievement and positive outcomes that address community needs will receive funding.

“The hard-working people of Mifflin and Juniata counties have heart and soul and compassion and kindness,” Mulvihill said. “People know that the money raised here, stays here. They know that every day lives are changed because they care.”
