United Way nears end of fundraising campaign

From staff reports

LEWISTOWN – With only one day left to the United Way campaign, the organization remains 7 percent short of its $600,000 goal. Though $555,120 has been raised so far, the United Way is still pushing to reach its final goal by the March 31 deadline.

“We understand this winter may have been tougher on everyone, but the pinch you feel is more like a punch to low income children, families and seniors,” said Marie Mulvihill, executive director of the United Way of Mifflin-Juniata. “Please show you care by donating to the United Way if you have not already done so. Every dollar is very important to someone in need.”

The United Way works to fund programs and initiatives that can change the course of someone’s life for the better, Mulvihill said in a recent press release. Such efforts touch the lives of thousands of men, women and children in every part of our community, she said.

United Way partner agencies include: American Red Cross, Abuse Network, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Crossroads Pregnancy Center, Delauter Youth Center, Fayette Area Lions Den, Juniata County Library, Juniata Valley Council of the Boy Scouts, Juniata Valley YMCA, LUMINA Center, MidPenn Legal

Services, Mifflin County Library, Mifflin-Juniata Special Needs Center, Mifflin-Juniata Dental Clinic, Mifflin County Playground Association, NuVisions and Shelter Services/Coalition of HOPES.

Initiatives that are managed by the United Way staff include: Summer Food Service Program, Success By 6, Money In Your Pocket income tax assistance program, Mifflin-Juniata Energy Bank and Day of Caring.

Any donations received through April 2 will count toward the 2013 goal. Donations can be made to the United Way of Mifflin-Juniata, 13 E. Third St., Lewistown, PA, 17044. Donations can also be given by phone at 248-9636 or online at www.mjunitedway.org.
