Police: Box truck hits buggy, one person dies
MEXICO – A collision between a box truck and a horse-drawn buggy left one dead and three injured around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Juniata County, officials report.
Pennsylvania State Police Lewistown said a 24-year-old female, from Mifflintown, was pronounced dead at the scene and a 25-year-old man along with a one-year-old boy and a two-year-old boy, all of Mifflintown, suffered injuries of unknown severity. Police said the children were taken by Fayette EMS ambulances to Lewistown Hospital.
According to the report, a 1999 Spartan box truck driven by David L. Brubaker, 42, of Thompsontown, was traveling east on William Penn Highway, near Wagner Road, Walker Township, when it attempted to pass a horse and buggy traveling at a slow rate of speed.
Police said as the box truck attempted to pass in a designated passing zone, the vehicle struck the rear end of the buggy.
After initial impact the buggy rolled over and came to a final rest on its roof, in the east bound lane, police said.
According to Mifflintown Hose Company the horse was also deceased.
Police said the Brubaker was not injured, will be cited for incident and no alcohol was involved.
Police said the investigation continues.
