Council approves plans for memorial

BURNHAM – Burnham Borough Council approved the Chapter 791 Vietnam Veterans to go ahead with their planned dedication of a memorial at the Fifth Avenue Circle during Burnham Community Day, scheduled for Aug. 31.

The veterans group says it plans to contact state representatives, congressmen and other government officials to attend the memorial.

Bricks with personal engravings to be placed at the memorial are selling for $60 per brick. If interested in purchasing a brick, members of the community may stop in to the Burnham Municipal Building at 200 First Ave. or contact Erven Priest at 248-0934 or Charles Dicken at 363-3100.

In other business, the council approved the adoption of an ordinance which will include Burnham Borough in the Police Mutual Aid Agreement. This allows police from other municipalities to cross jurisdictions to help make arrests.

Council also voted to advertise for lifeguards, pool managers and playground supervisors for the public swimming pool.

Burnham Borough Council meets at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of every month at its building in Burnham.
