Council approves facilities updates

LEWISTOWN – Lewistown Borough Council approved wastewater facilities updates and listened to a presentation by Gannett-Fleming representative, Jere Northridge, about the Wastewater Treatment Plant, at its Monday meeting.

Northridge presented a compiled annual report which summarizes “the whole treatment plant.”

Every month what comes into and leaves the Wastewater Treatment Plant is tracked and sent to the Department of Environmental Protection. The compiled annual report was all of those statistics put together in a easy presentable manner which tracks progress.

He said the plant is in within a month of being on schedule.

Regarding the wastewater treatment plant the council:

Approved the authorization for the appropriate officers to execute the monthly contractor requests for payments.

Accepted the Chapter 94 Municipal Wasteload Management Annual Report 2012 and authorized the appropriate officers to execute the documents.

Voted to change order No. 4 for McCrossin, and authorization for the appropriate officers to execute the documents.

Mayor Deb Bargo announced she has organized an Amtrak rally at the Lewistown Train Station. A change in federal law starting this October could result in the cancellation of the rail route from Pittsburgh to Harrisburg, which Bargo said would inevitably close the Lewistown station. Bargo said she has been in contact with state representatives and other Pennsylvania political figures, whom are scheduled to be in attendance. The rally is set to take place at 11 a.m. on March 21.

In other business the council:

Accepted the Law and Ordinance Committee report.

Approved handicapped spaces at 33 and 61 Logan Street.

Approved Mifflin County Jr. Babe Ruth Baseball and Mifflin County Youth Baseball to use practice fields at Rec Park.

Approved Fire United Methodist Church to have a block party on July 21.

Approved a Sacred Heart of Jesus Church walk on March 29.

Lewistown Borough Council normally meets at 5:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Lewistown Municipal Building on East Third Street.
