Community pharmacy opens in Yeagertown
YEAGERTOWN – After working at the local Kmart pharmacy for eight years, Jeffrey Bonjo decided to leave the world of big business and open his own pharmacy, dedicated to serving the community on a personal level, in Yeagertown.
“I know a lot about the pharmacy business and I think I can bring something important to the community,” Bonjo said. “Big businesses are so set on cutting corners and saving money. I think, in a smaller setting, I can provide better and more personal service.”
Greenway Pharmacy officially opened for business on New Years Eve, making $100 in the first two hours ” A sign of good things to come for the new business, Bonjo said.
The pharmacy accepts most local insurances and has a $4 generic prescription plan that requires no registration fees, Bonjo said. The pharmacy also stocks pet prescriptions and has a small animal shopping section, he added.
“I have many of the basic pet medications in-store,” Bonjo said. “If the prescription is something more rare or unusual, I can get it by the next day.”
In addition to providing animal and human prescriptions, Greenway Pharmacy also stocks personal care products, specialized vitamins and health care items that Bonjo personally handpicked. The lobby also features a collection of local products, such as Hartley’s Potato Chips, Asher’s Chocolates and Leanin’ Tree greeting cards for sale.
“I believe that each person should take responsibility for revitalizing and bringing life into the community,” Bonjo said. “That’s what Im doing here, on a small business scale. The pharmacy has created three new jobs and put $40,000 of renovation money back into the economy.”
Bonjo is also working to move the pharmacy in a green direction. During the renovation process, many existing materials were reused and the floor was constructed with Pennsylvania limestone. As business increases, Bonjo plans to add more environmentally friendly aspects to the store, he said.
Greenway Pharmacy, located at 310 S. Main St., Yeagertown, is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and provides prescription delivery services to Yeagertown residents free of charge. For more information, contact Jeffrey Bonjo at 953-9534 or visit the Greenway Pharmacy Facebook page.
