Accident claims life of first responder
PORT ROYAL – A 30-year-old Port Royal man died on Tuesday evening of injuries sustained during a motor vehicle accident along state Route 75 in Tuscarora Township, according to a report from Pennsylvania State Police Lewistown.
Police responded to the scene at approximately 8:17 p.m. where they found Wesley Hostetter deceased in his 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, according to the report. Hostetter was an EMS volunteer with Lack EMS who was responding to a fire at the time of the accident.
Police said Hostetter was travelling south on state Route 75 when his vehicle traveled off the road, struck a utility pole on the drivers side and then flipped, coming to rest on its roof.
Hostetter was the only occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said speed appeared to be a factor in the crash.
Assisting at the scene were Lack-Tuscarora EMS, East Waterford Fire Department, Beale Township Fire Department, Mifflintown Fire Department, Port Royal EMS, Fannett-Metal Fire Department and the Juniata County Coroner’s Office.
