MH/MR program running smoothly
MIFFLINTOWN – The Juniata Valley Tri-County MH/MR Program is running smoothly despite a 10 percent cut in funding, said Administrator Chris Wysocki at a public board meeting held Tuesday by the Juniata County Commissioners.
Wysocki said the program provides mental health and mental retardation services to Huntingdon, Mifflin and Juniata counties. The program currently serves 146 people with a mental health diagnosis, 82 with intellectual disabilities and 32 early intervention cases. He said the numbers reflect normal progress for this time during the fiscal year.
“We’re in a position where, if an emergency would come up, we would be able to respond and take care of the situation,” he said.
Wysocki also said the program has made a smooth transition after the closure of the Juniata County Prison. He said the relocation made it easier to provide necessary services by making it possible to serve two counties in one location.
Also during the meeting, the board of commissioners:
Approved tax exonerations for Port Royal Borough and Turbett Township according to material provided.
Approved the Medical Assistance Transportation Program report for the quarter ending Dec. 31, 2012, as submitted by Call-A-Ride Service Director of Finance Jenaya L. Mellinger.
Approved the Performance Evaluation Report for Susan M. Clark, county caseworker 2, as submitted by Helen Henry, Children and Youth director.
Approved the part-time hiring of Glenn S. Kerstetter as deputy register and recorder of Juniata County, effective Jan. 31, 2013.
Ratified CDBG-ISIS check No. 1,155 in the amount of $8,200 to Hostler Custom Woodworks, check No. 1,157 in the amount of $5,500 to M and E Construction and check No. 1,158 in the amount of $6,200 to M and E Construction for housing rehabilitation projects.
Approved a three-year contract covering 2012, 2013 and 2014 with Maximus Consulting Services Inc. to prepare Juniata County’s annual indirect cost allocation plans. The annual preparation fee is $4,350 for a total contracted cost of $13,050.
Approved checks Nos. 36,799 through 36,830 in the amount of $40,420.68.
A proclamation to declare February as American Heart Month was tabled until next week’s meeting.
