Memorial Day events in the Juniata Valley

Saturday and Sunday — The grounds of the Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg will be transformed into a staging area for the push into occupied France as Acisand Allied forces bivouac, interpreting field life for the public in this annual Memorial Day weekend event. Camps open at 10 a.m. each day, with tours, activities for children, lectures, a canteens and displays.

Sunday — 11 a.m., service at the West Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church on West Main Street, Belleville.

Sunday — 2 p.m., Church Hill Cemetery Memorial Celebration, Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville. Guest speaker: Master Chief Michael “Ted” Carothers, U.S. Navy veteran. Bring lawn chair. In case of bad weather, the event will be held at East Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church.

Monday — 9 a.m., Juniata County Memorial Day Parade, Port Royal; 10:30 a.m., parade in Mifflintown; 11 a.m., Memorial Day Ceremony at Westminster Cemetery.

Monday — 10 a.m., 132nd consecutive Memorial Day service, United Methodist Church, Vira.

Monday — 11 a.m., Honor Our Veterans Memorial Day Service, Troxelville Union Cemetery. Special speaker, community band, patriotic music. Bring lawn chairs. In the event of rain, the service will be held in Grace Reformed Church, Troxelville. More information: (570) 658-7658.

Monday — The Belleville VFW will host its 72nd annual Memorial Day ceremony and parade on Memorial Day in Belleville. The parade, sponsored by the Stroup-Alexander VFW Post 5935, will begin at 9:30 a.m., forming at St. John’s Lutheran Church at the west end of town, proceeding to the post home on Main Street, Belleville.

The grand marshall is William H. Hesketh Jr., who served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955, assigned to the 7th fleet in Korea from December 1951 to July 1953.

The outstanding service award will be presented to John H. Kennedy, who joined the post in April 1969 shortly after returning from a tour in Vietnam. The speaker for the ceremony at the Belleville VFW will be Chaplain (Col.) Jerry Sieg.
