Bluebird Housing Assistance

Look for the new bluebird boxes at Kish Park, as seen at right. Bluebirds are cavity nesters, and aggressive European starlings have been hogging the limited supply of nest sights on the south side of the park, says Gordon Parker, of Honey Creek Bill & Beak, Lewistown. He “wanted to lend our little blue buddies a hand (a wing maybe?) and with Derry Township’s permission, installed bluebird boxes that starlings can’t fit into.

“Will bluebirds accept the invite? We’ll just have to wait and see,” he says.
