Free tax program is available for seniors

LEWISTOWN — Mifflin-Juniata Regional Services Corp.’s annual tax assistance program is now taking appointments.

A team of experienced volunteers are ready to assist local clients by preparing state and federal income tax forms for those who meet the age requirement or who are disabled.

The program is available for qualifying senior citizens who are 60 years and older.

Appointments begin on Feb. 6 and will be available every Tuesday and Friday until the end of tax season in April, with time slots ranging from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tax clients meet with volunteers at their office on 249 W. Third St., Lewistown, and may enter through the Adult Day Care Center’s side entrance. Greeters will be available to provide further guidance from there.

The agency provides volunteer tax assistance in partnership with the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, a program that hosts more than 5,000 nationwide locations in neighborhood libraries, malls, banks, community centers and senior centers. There is no fee for this service and AARP membership is not required.

To make an appointment or for more information, call Mifflin-Juniata Regional Services at (717) 242-0315 ext.112.
