Church to host International Gifts Sale

From staff reports

MIFFLINTOWN – Fair trade gift and home items created by master artisans will be on sale at the Juniata Valley International Gifts Sale, to be held at Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church. The event is set for 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 22 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 23.

“We are hosting this 19th Annual International Gifts Sale because we’re aware of the true artisan and farmer stories behind each item being sold,” said Linda Geissinger, sale co-organizer. “Our sale gives everyone an opportunit to buy beautiful gifts. At the same time, we’re raising money to help, train and equip marginalized women and men – and to protect children from exploitation. Profits will also help support schools and advance health and environmental protection programs in communities that desperately need support.”

According to a press release, working with nonprofit organizations with a history of partnering with impoverished people and supporting sustainable development compliments the sale’s mission of supporting world artisans and craftsmen through the sale of fair trade products. The sale promotes cultural understanding in the community by providing high-quality gift items from around the world, the release states.

The sale will include handmade home decor, art, jewelry, personal accessories and other global items representing at least 35 countries in Latin American, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
