Salem Road Hardware, in Milroy, offers a wide variety of hardware and gardening tools.

MILROY — From bolts and belts, to shovels and nails, Salem Road Hardware has a wide variety of goods for any hardware and gardening needs.

Located outside of Milroy, the store, owned by Israel and Katie Yoder, is bringing back a much-needed service to the area.

When a former hardware store closed in Milroy several years ago, Israel always said he wanted to open his own to fill the void and to help local residents from having to travel to other towns. So in February, the Yoders did just that and opened the store at the family’s residence.

Once inside the store, customers will see a wide variety of hardware items such as bolts for carriages and machines; all types of nails and screws; belts in almost every size; oil; Pennzoil grease; propane tanks; tools; chains; clamps; pipe; fittings and more.

On the garden side, the store has forks, shovels, rakes and garden hoses. Customers may look through a parts catalogue if what is needed isn’t in the store and a special order will be placed with delivery within two weeks.

Israel also offers welding services on the premises for $15 an hour or he sells welding rods for do-it-yourselfers.

The couple is learning the business as they go along and plan to increase inventory as they grow. Keeping prices as low as possible and bringing convenience to their customers is their motivation to try this new venture.

The store is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, closed Sundays and is located at 600 Salem Road, Milroy.
