Hain selected for FCC internet committee
LEWISTOWN — Nittany Media’s Michael Hain, has been tapped by Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai to serve on a key FCC advisory committee tackling broadband availability issues nationwide.
“Closing the digital divide across America is my top priority,” Pai said, who ordered the formation of the FCC’s Broadband Deployment Advisory Committee in January.
The committee will provide advice and make recommendations to the commission on how to accelerate the deployment of high-speed internet access, by reducing and removing regulatory barriers to infrastructure investment. The FCC sought a broad base of committee members,
representing various sectors of the communications industry, state and local regulators, consumers and community organizations.
According to a press release, the response for applicants was robust, and Pai said, “The commission was fortunate to have an excellent and deep pool of applicants to serve on the BDAC.”
Hain is one of 29 selected out of a pool of 380 applicants nationwide.
The FCC Broadband Deployment Advisory Committee’s first meeting is slated for April 21 in Washington.
“I’m excited that the committee will soon be getting to work on recommendations that will help break down barriers to broadband deployment,” Pai said. “The work of this committee will be a crucial step toward meeting that goal.”
