Bambi, local cat, wins Pet of the Game contest

SUNBURY — After a competition with a fair amount of purring, barking and preening for treats, Bambi, an 8-year-old cat owned by Yvonne Dunn of Lewistown, secured a victory in the Weis Markets’ 2016 Penn State Pet of the Game Contest, according to a press release.

Bambi defeated second-place Paisley, a 1-year-old Chihuahua Terrier mix owned by Kim Lumadue, of West Decatur.

Bambi’s entry generated 1,829 votes compared to Paisley’s 1,148 votes.  Overall, Weis Markets’ fans cast nearly 7,000 votes.

Nearly 300 pets competed in the Facebook contest for the grand prize of eight tickets to this week’s Penn State-Michigan State football game, VIP tailgating and a $200 Weis gift card.

Entrants included numerous cats and dogs, a deer named Tootsie and Finn the Penn State pony.

Lumadue won two tickets to the game as a second place prize. The competition was held on Weis Markets’ official Facebook fan page.

“We’re super-excited to have won Weis Markets’ Penn State Pet of the Game Contest and are grateful to the voters,” Dunn said in the release. “The competition was formidable but Bambi is a tremendous competitor who runs around the house at night and never gives up. We had planned to take her to the game but she’s been hiding under the couch since we told her. Thank you so much to Weis Markets — we look forward to a great game.”
