Valley Rural Electric to hold its annual meeting
MOUNT UNION – Valley Rural Electric Cooperative will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. on April 11, at Mount Union Area High School.
Member registration will begin at 6 p.m. and scenic photos of the co-op’s service territory will be presented from 6:30 to 7 p.m. The meeting will begin with the playing of the national anthem and an invocation.
James Stauffer, board chairman, will speak about the co-op’s beginnings and its impact on rural living. Valley REC President and Chief Executive Officer Rich Bauer will review how technological innovations are allowing the co-op to operate more efficiently, further increasing service reliability.
The members present will cast ballots for nominees from three of Valley’s nine director districts. During open nominating procedures held in February, the following candidates were selected:
District 1 Mervin Brumbaugh, Williamsburg, Timothy Knepp, Martinsburg, and Tracy Detwiler, Williamsburg, all in Blair County;
District 3 Kevin States, Hesston, Huntingdon County;
District 5 Robert Holmes, Huntingdon, Huntingdon County.
The three directors elected at the meeting will represent the entire co-op membership for a three-year term.
Former Penn State University football player and motivational speaker Adam Taliaferro will speak to adults, while children will watch the film “Planes” and enjoy refreshments and a presentation by Huntingdon County Dairy Princess Danielle Varner of Shirleysburg.
Meeting attendees may bring with them any spent compact spiral fluorescent light bulbs for proper disposal.
Valley REC is a member-owned cooperative that provides electric service to nearly 22,000 consumers in eight counties in south-central Pennsylvania, including Bedford, Blair, Centre, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata and Mifflin.
