Giant/Martin’s issues voluntary recall of dark chocolate bars

LEWISTOWN – Simply Natural Foods, along with Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets, have removed Simply Lite Dark Chocolate Bars from store shelves after the product was recalled because it may contain greater amounts of milk protein than indicated by the product label, which states that it may contain only traces of this ingredient.

The product is safe to consume for individuals who do not suffer from a milk protein allergy.

The product included in the recall is the Simply Lite Dark Chocolate Bar, 3 oz., UPC 0079020012, with lot number 01182015A and 01192015A.

The stores have received no reports of illnesses to date. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk protein may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. Symptoms of food allergies typically appear from within a few minutes to two hours after a person has eaten the food to which he or she is allergic. Allergic reactions can include: hives; flushed skin or rash; tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth; face, tongue, or lip swelling; vomiting and/or diarrhea; abdominal cramps; coughing or wheezing; dizziness and/or lightheadedness; swelling of the throat and vocal cords; difficulty breathing; loss of consciousness.

Customers who have purchased the product should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to the appropriate store for a full refund.
