Mackneer honored as 2018 Junior Fair Person of the Year

At the 2018 Mifflin County Youth Fair opening ceremony, Tyler Mackneer was named the 2018 Junior Fair Person of the Year for Mifflin County. His passion for agriculture began with 4-H and later lead to his involvement in both 4-H and FFA.

Mackneer participated in the Mifflin County Youth Fair with livestock projects for beef, beef heifers, dairy feeders and poultry during his school years. He also achieved the Big Valley FFA Chapter Greenhand award. Although Mackneer has now moved beyond 4-H and FFA, he continues to be a great fair volunteer. He has served the fair through his volunteer efforts as overnight barn co-manager, offering his time and knowledge in the 4-H food stand, assisting the grounds and buildings manager during fair week and helping with pen and fair set-up. Mackneer’s knowledge of livestock is often helps the youth exhibitors and he is always ready to lend a helping hand with unruly livestock.

The fairgrounds’ major project for summer 2017 was concreting the dairy, poultry, rabbit and goat barns. Mackneer was a steady worker in helping to complete this large project. His dedication to the fair continues throughout the rest of the year. He is a shining example of what it means to give back with his love of agriculture, passion for the county fair and dedication to helping the fair provide a safe, happy and educational venue for all.
